We are working closely alongside a Local Authority in Swale to assist with the appointment of a Council Tax Officer , on a 2.5-month contract , highly likely to be extended at clients discretion. Responsibilities: To maintain an up to date record of taxpayer accounts to ensure the prompt issue of accounts and arrears documentation thus maximising cash flow. As a customer focused role to bee able to communicate with customers directly either by telephone, correspondence or interview to give advice on matters of liability or to ascertain information to ensure accurate records and to promote customer care. To work with the Mid Kent Compliance team to undertake regular surveys of exemptions and discounts granted to prevent fraud and avoid monetary loss. To progress enforcement by preparing and despatching documentation post Court Hearing and making attachments to earnings/. income support, making and monitoring payment arrangements and referring cases to Bailiffs to maximise the recovery of arrears. To attend the Magistrates Court to negotiate with defaulters and to prepare financial statements to assist the Recovery Officer in his/her prosecution and the Magistrates in their adjudication. Requirements: Educated to GCSE standard at Grade 4 (C) or above including Maths and English or an equivalent qualification such as NVQ level 2 in a suitable subject area like Business and Finance or Administration. An IT related qualification Knowledge and understanding of current Legislation relating to Council Tax A basic knowledge of Housing Benefit Legislation Knowledge of Data Protection Principles Knowledge of Magistrate Court procedures Experience of working in a Revenues and Benefits team Experience in using Academy and Comino systems would be an advantage.
