Work Schedule : X-Ray Technologists will work eight-hour shifts with possible start times ranging between 7:00 a.m. and 9:30 a.m., Monday through Friday Location: The Department of Veterans Affairs City VAMC 601 Highway 6 West Iowa City, IA 52246Pay Rate: $27.00 - $35.00 an hour Requirements Responsibilities: Performs routine radiographs (e.g. Fluoro, OR, DR Imagining) imaging. Performs routine administrative procedures for the purpose of maintaining accurate imaging records. Receives and interprets all radiology requests. Inputs pertinent radiology information into computer. Schedules appointments, processes exam requests, and registers patient exams, cancels and case edits exams in the Radiology Information System (RIS). Performs Quality Control procedures, with supervision, which may include (but not limited to) the following: Reject/repeat image analysis, Lead apron & glove radiation verification. Practices radiation safety in order to reduce exposure to patients and staff while applying elements of the As Low as Reasonably Achievable (ALARA) Principle. This is including appropriate use of lead aprons, lead gloves, lead shields, collimation, and distance management. Film badges are worn by the radiographer to assure compliance to radiation regulations. Interviews patient obtaining pertinent medical history and precise medication usage as it pertains to the examination being performed. Explains to patients the rationale of procedures and instructions on how to complete the procedure. Identifies patient in accordance with facility policy, confirms identity on order, properly identifies patient images and utilizes L(eft) and R(ight) markers. This is essential so that mistaken identity of images to patients does not occur. Identifies system errors and work with the Supervisor, Assistant Chief Tech and BioMed department to facilitate the effective and timely service of radiographic equipment. Maintains electronic records and files of exams performed on patients. Additional duties as necessary within the scope of practice for Diagnostic Radiography. Required Qualifications: Must be a U.S. Citizen Must have a current (ARRT) - certified by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists. Active BLS Certification Minimum of 2 years of experience within the last 3 years. Provide proof of Health Record as required. Skills: Physiology Knowledge: Understanding of human anatomy and physiology to accurately position patients for imaging. Perform routine diagnostic radiological procedures/services as appropriate Adhere to radiation safety policies and procedures in accordance with Radiology Department policies and procedures. Observe and report to the radiologist any symptoms which have direct bearing on the patient's condition as a result of adverse reaction to contrast media and inform the radiologist of any condition requiring his/her attention. #ZRPowered by JazzHR
