Description:Mental Health Clinician / CounselorStudent ServicesOffice of Diversity, Equity, and InclusionFull-time, exemptReports to: Associate Dean for DEISalary range: $60,320 - $74,800VLGS Benefits and PTO include:- Full benefits (medical, dental, vision, etc.).- 403b including 4% employer contribution.- 2 weeks of paid vacation in addition to paid personal and sick days.- 11 paid holidays plus two weeks of paid Dean's Days for Summer and Winter breaks. Position SummaryUnder limited supervision, the Mental Health Clinician/Counselor fulfills the mission of Vermont Law and Graduate School by providing counseling services that support the psychological and personal wellness of the student body. This position also includes conceptualization and presentation of relevant mental health programs and events, support groups, and leadership of the Mental Health Committee.Essential Functions and Principal Accountabilities:Hold regular, consistent hours for individual counseling by appointment, in a virtual or hybrid setting as school policy dictates, and collect symptom data for review.Complete intake assessments, maintaining HIPAA compliant records and case management notes.Maintain relationships with, and make referrals to, appropriate mental health professionals, community agencies, or other providers as warranted.Work with hospital staff to coordinate student inpatient stays and streamline their discharge planning.Respond to mental health emergencies, during and after business hours, as necessary.Provide support for the AA chapter or other similar groups on campus; work with other community groups or resources as appropriate.Create opportunities for in-person or virtual mental health education/experiences for students, staff, and faculty.Supervise and assist all aspects of Mental Health Committee meetings and events and serve on other committees as assigned.Adhere to one's professional Code of Ethics and all relevant state and federal laws pertaining to the provision of mental health services.Maintain confidentiality, as required by both HIPAA and FERPA regulations, and manage communication about the rights and responsibilities of these requirements to students, staff and faculty.Create, distribute, analyze, and summarize reports for annual surveys.Communicate with students, staff, and faculty in a clear, respectful manner.Participate in required reporting as requested.Other tasks as assigned.Requirements:Education, Skills, and Experience:Master's degree in Counseling, Social Work, Clinical Psychology or other specialty related to the job function required.At least two years of full-time mental health counseling experience, OR experience working with young adults in a therapeutic setting, required.Current licensure for Vermont as a practicing mental health clinician/counselor is required.Must maintain licensure for continuity of employment.Understanding of, appreciation for, and commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, including the ability to work with students, faculty, and staff from diverse backgrounds, identities, and viewpoints. Demonstrated experience and skill working with multicultural populations, including international students, LGBTQ students, BIPOC students, veterans, and others.Ability to use independent judgment and to manage and impart confidential information.Ability to analyze and solve problems, organize resources, and establish priorities.Workable knowledge of Microsoft Office, Outlook, and Teams programs.Must be able to adapt to new and emerging technology as established and communicated by the law and graduate school. Comfort with public speaking, engaging both large and small groups.Speak, read, and write in fluent English and communicate by telephone, email, letter, and in person.Other Requirements:Requires the ability to use a telephone and computer for student interactions.On-campus presence may be required for student interactions.Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and deadlines and reorganize under pressure.Ability to work independently and within a team.Must be able to work legally within the United States without sponsorship.
