Position Summary The Urgent Care Physician plays a crucial role in providing immediate and comprehensive medical care to patients seeking urgent care services. They are responsible for diagnosing and treating a wide range of non-life-threatening medical conditions, injuries, and illnesses. The Urgent Care Physician works in a fast-paced environment, providing timely and high-quality care to ensure optimal patient outcomes. Responsibilities Provide urgent medical care: Evaluate, diagnose, and treat patients with acute and non-emergent medical conditions, injuries, and illnesses within the scope of urgent care practice. Perform physical examinations: Conduct comprehensive physical assessments of patients, including taking medical histories, obtaining vital signs, and performing relevant medical tests or procedures. Order and interpret diagnostic tests: Request and review laboratory tests, imaging studies, and other diagnostic tests as needed to aid in the diagnosis and treatment of patients. Prescribe medications: Determine appropriate pharmacological interventions and prescribe medications based on patient needs, taking into consideration possible drug interactions, allergies, and contraindications. Collaborate with healthcare team: Coordinate and consult with other healthcare professionals, including nurses, physician assistants, specialists, and referring providers, to ensure comprehensive patient care. Perform minor procedures: Conduct minor procedures such as wound closures, laceration repairs, simple fracture reductions, and abscess drainage as required within the scope of urgent care practice. Document patient encounters: Maintain accurate and detailed medical records, including patient histories, physical examination findings, diagnoses, treatment plans, and follow-up instructions, ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory requirements. Follow quality and safety protocols: Adhere to established quality assurance and patient safety protocols, ensuring the delivery of safe and effective urgent care services. Stay updated with medical advancements: Keep abreast of new developments and advancements in urgent care medicine through continued medical education (CME) activities, attending conferences, and staying informed about the latest research and guidelines. Provide patient education: Offer medical guidance, advice, and education to patients and their families regarding medical conditions, treatment options, preventive care, and lifestyle modifications. Demonstrate professionalism: Uphold ethical standards, maintain patient confidentiality, and abide by relevant laws, regulations, and professional codes of conduct. Foster positive patient experiences: Ensure a compassionate, patient-centered approach, actively listening to patients' concerns, addressing queries, and striving to provide a welcoming and reassuring environment. Qualifications Medical degree (MD or DO) from an accredited medical school. Current and unrestricted medical license in the state of practice. Board certification (or ability to receive) in Urgent Care Medicine, Family Medicine, Emergency Medicine, or relevant specialty. Completion of an accredited residency program in Urgent Care Medicine, Emergency Medicine, or Family Medicine or equivalent experience. Strong clinical and diagnostic skills. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to effectively interact with patients, colleagues, and other members of the healthcare team. Ability to handle a fast-paced, time-sensitive environment with efficiency and professionalism. Demonstrated knowledge of urgent care medical practices, procedures, and protocols. Commitment to staying updated with the latest advancements in urgent care medicine through continuous learning and professional development. Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
