Education / Experience A 4-year college degree and 1-2 years practical Childrens Ministry work/volunteer experience is preferred; ora 2-year college degree with intention of completing a 4-year degree and 1-2 years practical work/volunteer experience in Childrens Ministry; ora high school diploma and 3-5 years practical work/volunteer experience in Childrens Ministry. Biblical education or training is a plus. Must provide professional and personal references, and pass a background check. Essential Function The Director of Childrens Ministry reports directly to the Associate Pastor and/or Senior Pastor. This position is responsible for the planning, coordination, and implementation of a Christian Ministry program for children from birth through fifth grade. This position will lead the Childrens Ministry staff and volunteer workers to provide spiritual development for both children and their parents through regular, ongoing programs and special services and events. Personal Qualifications The Childrens Ministry Director: Professes Christianity, demonstrates commitment to a Christian lifestyle, and exhibits a passion for the Gospel and the local church. Demonstrates honesty, trustworthiness, confidentiality, loyalty and integrity. Spends time in prayer and Bible study daily. Cultivates his/her personal gifts, skills, and talents. Can discern needs and respond appropriately, sensitively, and proactively. Practices good listening skills. Is a self-starter who requires minimal supervision, and can multi-task and maintain his/her composure under pressure. Practice effective time management. Possesses strong written, verbal, and non-verbal communication skills. Is proficient with current technology and communication tools necessary to the Childrens Ministry programs. Job Responsibilities: Meet all requirements for becoming a member of Sunrise Baptist Church. All Sunrise Baptist Church staff are expected to tithe and give to their church financially. Attend all staff meetings, retreats, and conferences as requested. Maintain flexible working hours as dictated by the needs of the ministry and Associate Pastor and/or Senior Pastor. Develop, coordinate, and oversee, with input and approval from Associate Pastor and/or Senior Pastor, all aspects of the Childrens Ministry, including Sunday Programs, Wednesday Evening Programs/Activities, Vacation Bible School, and other church-sponsored gatherings. Provide input to the Associate Pastor and/or Senior Pastor and the Sunrise Baptist Church Finance Committee for the preparation and presentation of annual budgets, reports, etc. Create and maintain a safe and welcoming environment for all workers, guests, children, and the childrens families. Work with the Associate Pastor and/or Senior Pastor in the hiring process of paid workers and the enlistment of volunteer workers for the various Childrens Ministry programs. Oversee training for the Childrens Ministry paid and volunteer workers, and periodically review church policies and program requirements for compliance and alignment. Provide supervisory leadership and oversight of the Childrens Ministry team. Oversee the purchase, distribution, and use of all classroom equipment and supplies (curriculum, toys, art supplies, kitchen supplies, etc.). Stay abreast of new materials, programs, methods, trends, etc., and plan and implement all Childrens Ministry projects, camps, retreats, parties, recognitions, special events, etc. Lead all camps, conferences, and retreats for the spiritual development of the children. Lead Sunday morning Kids Worship. Coordinate childcare for church events. Work with Associate Pastor and/or Senior Pastor to organize, oversee, and participate in ongoing visitation and evangelism programs for children and parents. Be available to counsel and pray with children as needed. Pray regularly for the children and volunteers. Effectively communicate with workers, parents, and Sunrise Baptist Church staff and leadership via the church communication portal, website, social media, email, text, and printed materials; Investigate and report any complaints regarding Childrens Ministry workers to Associate Pastor and/or Senior Pastor, or in their absence the Chairman of the Deacons. Attend relevant conferences and seminars as approved by Associate Pastor and/or Senior Pastor to keep up with best practices and programming. Participate in training opportunities as available or offered. Mentor Childrens Ministry Assistant. Other duties as assigned by Associate Pastor and/or Senior Pastor. Salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications.
