JOB SUMMARY The Electrical Designer Workgroup Lead (WGL) holds a central position within our organization, which is structured as a matrix. The WGL serves as the key technical and client-facing leader for a specific client(s) and engineering discipline. The WGL performs work in tandem: one engineer and one designer. They are also the single point of contact for a suite of projects under a particular program (a set of geographically organized clients), and thus coordinate directly with the Program Manager (PM). A strong WGL must be competent and function smoothly in both technical and personal/relationship realms. Strong emotional intelligence (EQ) is a key asset in this position. Our WGLs may also serve as project leaders for single-discipline or small-scale projects; and thus the position is a logical stepping stone to becoming a project leader. The WGL position requires a blend of technical, personal, communication, and entrepreneurial skills. Technical expertise is helpful, but not required. Strong communication skills are imperative. Ability to build and maintain relationships with a variety of personalities, both within and outside our organization, is central to success in this position. A working knowledge and understanding of stage-gated industrial projects is also necessary. Lastly, a WGL must engage in grass-roots business development by building relationships directly with client counterparts, be responsible for the products and quality of a small team of electrical engineers and designers, and manage and forecast the workload for his/her team. A successful candidate may desire either a technical career path or a path directed toward leadership and management. REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES TECHNICAL Ability to create, modify and work with 2D drawings in the AutoCAD 2010 (or newer) software Design wiring, conduit, and cable tray systems for NEC-hazardous classified areas. Working knowledge of conduit, wire, breaker sizing calculations. Working knowledge of 120/480VAC power and lighting design, and motor control circuit/schematics. Prepare detailed design of projects in compliance with governing codes, regulations, and client standards. Provide technical guidance and mentoring to more junior designers. Coordinate with client and construction representatives Basic working knowledge of 3D Design and software REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES - OTHER Familiar with and able to work within stage-gated project processes and requirements Prioritize own work on multiple projects Perform effectively in a team environment, both in-person and remotely Strong communication and organizational skills; written, oral, in-person Able to develop design budgets and schedules Experience developing construction packages for small to medium projects ($1MM to $30MM TIC) Highly detail oriented with a strong, self-driven work ethic Attention to details: able to detect and provide solutions for drawing consistency, quality, and presentation errors in deliverables, and able to point out all of these in others work in a constructive manner. Self-driven work ethic, including desire and capacity to encourage others and build a team Able to identify areas of personal technical strengths and weaknesses, ask for help when needed, and quickly learn new responsibilities Able to build a team, mentor younger designers, supervise senior designers, and provide constructive criticism Able to engage in confrontational or difficult situations with assertiveness, respect, and tact Able to evaluate equipment in the field, including climbing ladders, flights of stairs, etc. Able to travel to remote work sites on occasion Strong computer skills - Microsoft Applications Fluent in English language Applicants must be able to obtain a TWIC card. RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES Execute project design tasks in partnership with Electrical Engineer counterparts Develop scope for projects in all project phases; provide input to project plans and deliverable lists Review and provide input to project plans and schedules Coordinate with Electrical WGL Engineer, and project team to develop basic schedules Coordinate inter-discipline design directly with counterparts in other disciplines (such as piping and control systems) Work within 3D design software where applicable; contribute to and extract information from 3D model Perform detailed vendor document reviews and incorporate into project design Establish and review design budgets for all projects on your assigned program Perform drawing and document research in client databases; coordinate with Document Control at Anvil and Clients to properly find and checkout drawings Lead the development of detailed construction packages in accordance with codes and standards: Process and Instrumentation Diagrams Block Diagrams Location and Plot Plans Motor control and wiring schematics Switchgear control and wiring schematics Single line drawings Electrical grounding, power, and lighting plan drawings Electrical hazardous area classification drawings Installation details Heat tracing design and drawings Conduit & Tray Diagrams Material Take-Offs (MTO) and Bills of Material (BoMs) Coordinate final package quality checks and hand-off to project assistants for formal issue NOTE: as a lead designer, you may not perform all of these duties on a given project, but you are ultimately responsible for the quality and completeness of the package Perform quality checks on ones own work, as well as independent checks for co-workers Ensure projects and work processes adhere to Anvils Project Services Quality System (PSQS) for ones own work as well as a small team Perform work with minimal supervision and guidance EDUCATION & CERTIFICATIONS A.A.S. or higher in engineering or related discipline OR 8+ years working on Oil & Gas, Refining, and/or Petrochemical Plant Projects - Preferred 8-25 years of experience in Electrical design on Oil & Gas, Refining, and/or Petrochemical Plant projects PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Able to work in heavy industrial facilities: climb ladders, work off elevated surfaces, and walk over uneven surfaces while wearing required PPE Able to sit/stand for long periods of time working at a computer Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at a time PREFERRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES Strong 3D Design capability Experience in Electrical and Control Systems Design Experience working on-site at an industrial facility in maintenance, reliability, or projects groups Ability and desire to mentor designers and engineers Application software such as lighting & heat trace design Experience with MicroStation Anvil Corp is proud to be an Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) Employer.
